Municipality closes down cafeteria, 30 scrap shops

Muncipality

Briman branch municipality has closed down a well-known cafeteria during a field tour of health facilities in the area.

Fahd Al-Mutairi, chairman of the branch municipality, said the local authority’s field inspectors detected a number of violations in the cafeteria including a lack of cleanliness and using spoiled ingredients.

“The ingredients were rotten and not properly preserved.”

The chairman said there were rodents and inspects inside the cafeteria and that water was leaking from it to other nearby shops and restaurants.

Al-Mutairi said 30 car scrap shops in the district have been shut down following the inspections, while a number of vehicles were also towed away.

The cars were parked in front of the shops so their spare parts could be sold to interested customers. He said the scrap shops have committed a number of violations including a failure to maintain cleanliness and letting rubbish accumulate outside their premises.

“Many workers are illegal and some of them were working without licenses from the municipality,” he added.

Al-Mutairi said the shops were misusing the roads by parking scrap cars on them.

The campaign, which continued for a week, was jointly organized by the branch municipality, Jeddah Police and the Jeddah municipality’s department of roads.
