Saudi at 33 discovers he was born with one kidney
AL-AHSA — A young man and his family were surprised to learn that he was born with one kidney after 33 years of his birth.
The discovery was made when Habib Ahmed Abu Khlaif suffered from kidney failure and his brother had to donate one of his kidneys to save him, Al-Madinah daily reported.
“I used to go everywhere with my friends and played a lot of football without ever feeling exhausted. For 33 years, I lived a normal life until one day when I collapsed from exhaustion. My father and brother took me to the nearest hospital and after performing a battery of tests, doctors told me I was born with one kidney, which was failing,” he said.
After seeing a specialist in Riyadh, doctors told him that he needed to undergo a kidney transplant immediately as waiting may cause complications. Forced to start dialysis treatment until a donor came forward, Abu Khlaif said he was determined and hopeful. “Immediately, my younger brother Amir decided to donate one of his kidneys to save my life. The operation was carried out successfully, thanks to Allah,” Abu Khlaif said.
“I could not bear to see my elder brother Habib suffering from pain and exhaustion. He was shifting from one specialist center to another looking for treatment. So I decided to contribute and save him from further anguish,” said Amir.
