JAZAN — The recent rains and floods in Jazan have cut electricity and communications from more than 400 border villages and hamlets in the region. Civil Defense spokesman Maj. Yahya Bin Abdullah Al-Qahtani said three people were rescued and 13 cars were pulled out of the bottom of a valley before they were washed away by the floods. Two children drowned in rainwater pools in Dhamad following heavy rains on Wednesday. A 13-year-old boy slipped into a pond and attempts by passersby to rescue him failed. By the time Civil Defense divers arrived at the scene, the boy had died. Meanwhile, a two-year-old girl drowned in a rainwater pool that was formed outside her village home. Al-Qahtani warned that more rains, floods and winds were expected in the region over the coming few days. He advised parents against leaving children alone outside their homes during heavy rains.
