Field teams of the Makkah and Riyadh Municipalities have stepped up efforts to ensure that eateries in the cities are in compliance with health and hygiene specifications.

In the latest development, the Riyadh Municipality inspection teams closed down more than 32 firms for violating health requirements including low hygiene levels and poor food storage conditions, local media said.

The teams also suspended 86 workers for lack of health certificates and neglecting to wear uniforms including the existence of disease marks on their hands, the media said.

The above measures are in line with the municipality’s intensive campaigns on food stores and restaurants which have an impact on the health of citizens and residents. The campaigns are aimed to ensure that eateries comply with health and hygiene specifications, municipality officials said.

Meanwhile, in Makkah, the municipality teams seized and destroyed 700 kg of rotten meat during a raid of an unauthorized abattoir in Rasifa District, Makkah, Sabq newswire said.

The slaughterhouse which was run by a group of foreign workers was closed and the workers referred to the concerned bodies for investigation, a municipality official was quoted as saying.
