Sports, cultural activities for students this summer

The Education Ministry launches next week 720 summer clubs to provide sports, cultural and various life skills activities for thousands of students across the country.

Muhammad Al-Qahtani, general supervisor of extra-curricular activities at the Tatweer program of the ministry, said recently the initiative is taking place under the King Abdullah Project for the Development of Public Education.

The activities would take place over two months for male and female students. The aim is to instill the correct community values in students and develop them intellectually, he said.

Al-Qahtani said the activities include cultural, sports, health and life skills activities, which would encourage students to take up voluntary work and become more patriotic. The end-result would be to create citizens who are able to bear the responsibility of serving the nation.

The activities will take place five hours a day, in the afternoon, five days a week. “The clubs will be active during the summer vacation and the holy month of Ramadan in public schools. The ministry would provide equipped halls, playing yards, courts, support services and safety and security,” he said.
