Iran upbeat on Saudi talks
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for the Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdullahian has revealed he had “constructive” talks with Deputy Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Prince Salman in Cairo.
Speaking to IRNA, the Iranian official said he and Prince Salman underlined that Tehran and Riyadh are willing to help restore peace and security of the region.
Amir-Abdullahian also met with Deputy Foreign Minister Prince Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah and thanked the Kingdom for inviting Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif for talks.
According to sabq.org, they discussed matters related to arranging the foreign ministers’ meeting in the Kingdom at an appropriate time.
In a previous statement, an Iranian official said Tehran had requested Saudi Arabia to put forth the agenda for the proposed talks. He said the talks should focus on the situation in Yemen, as well as developments in Iraq and Syria.
“These hot topics must be discussed for confidence-building.”
