Two men were arrested in Madinah for robbing jewelry worth an estimated SR300,000 from a villa owned by a Saudi citizen, Sabq newswire reported, quoting a Madinah police spokesman.

Earlier, a citizen had informed the Al-Oyoun police office that his villa had been subject to a robbery and that SR300,000 worth of jewelry had been taken in addition to two laptops, police spokesman Lt. Col. Sami Al-Juhani told the media.

Following the theft report, Maj. Gen. Abdulhadi Al-Shahrani of Madinah police formed a team to investigate the theft.

Based on the information made available to the Department of Criminal Investigation, a man was put under surveillance after he told some shops he wanted to sell several pieces of jewelry, Al-Shahrani said.

A close monitoring of the suspect revealed that he had an accomplice. Later, the two confessed to the robbery and told the police of the whereabouts of the stolen goods.
The two were arrested and are being interrogated, police said.
