Armed robbers arrested in Riyadh

Riyadh police have arrested two Saudis who took money at gunpoint from a shopkeeper in the west of Riyadh.

Acting on a tip-off, police chased a Caprice car driving at high speed and apprehended the two robbers who stole SR1,700 and a mobile phone from a shopkeeper in Sulay district in western Riyadh.

The two suspects confessed that they were small time thieves robbing corner shops of money. They also admitted to stealing a sum of SR1,000 from another shopkeeper in a similar operation.

The police found a pistol, SR400 and four mobile phones on the thieves.

Further investigations are being conducted and on completion of the inquiry, the suspects will be produced in court for necessary legal action.

The Kingdom’s laws allow courts to pass capital punishment for armed robbery.
