Close family ties stressed at expats’ gathering
The Kizhuparamba Churot Mahallu Welfare Forum recently organized a gathering for families in Dammam in which the forum’s role in strengthening cooperation among Muslims was emphasized.
Addressing the gathering, P.T. Abdul Rasheed, an Islamic scholar, stressed the role of mahallu in improving relations between family members by narrowing their differences, and developing a healthy family system in Muslim societies in light of Islamic teachings.
He reminded parents and children about their duties and rights. “If everybody discharges their duties properly, everybody will get their rights. If we follow the teachings of Islam in taking care of our parents, there will be no need for building special homes for the elderly,” he pointed out.
In his speech, Noufal Karuvampoil said mahallu systems could play an important role in eradicating poverty in the community and removing the pains and difficulties facing its members, especially the downtrodden.
He also stressed the forum’s contributions toward strengthening the Churot Mahallu, one of the oldest in the south Indian state of Kerala. Sports contests were held as part of the event and winners were given prizes.
