Health Ministry to focus on seasonal diseases

The Ministry of Health has announced that it will focus on seasonal diseases during its phone-in service to be resumed on Sunday following the weekend.

Last week, the ministry conducted a series of phone-in programs to help the public find answers and solutions to their medical problems. Senior medical consultants of various specialties were present to answer callers on a toll free number (8002494444), provided by the ministry.

The Ministry of Health has launched a massive summer awareness campaign through electronic channels to educate the people, who are going abroad for summer holidays to local and international destinations.

The awareness program highlighted the health problems faced by people who move out of their homes for their summer holidays and also for those who opt to stay at home during the holiday season. The program encourages the viewers and listeners to take special safety care in food, while playing in parks, in swimming pools, and the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.

Adviseries have also been given on the prevention of road accidents, adhering to a balanced diet and physical exercise, prevention of drug abuse, and the safe use of electronic devices among children.

The campaign which will last for three weeks targets all segments of men and women throughout the Kingdom.

Last week, parents were urged to supervise their children when they use electronic toys and devices during their leisure time.

Beginning Sunday, health specialists will enlighten people on the prevention of seasonal diseases that come up during the summer. The other topics that will be dealt by the panelists include cancer diseases, diabetes, blood- related diseases and bone marrow cancer, infectious diseases and the importance of blood donation.

The health officials, who will participate this week, will include Dr. Fahad Al-Shariff, Dr. Mead Abdul Razick, Dr. Naila Abu Jedaie, Dr. Shafiya Sherbini and Dr. Shuha Hassanain.

Health officials will also have special counters in the domestic and international airports to distribute brochures on health education that will be useful for visitors on domestic and international tours.
