24-hour jail for jumping red signal

JEDDAH – Motorists jumping red signals will get 24-hour detention plus fine, sources at the Traffic General Directorate have said.

According to the new traffic regulation, fines slapped under Saher traffic system on those jumping signals will be accepted only after the violators have served 24-hour detention.

The directorate, which started implementing the new regulation, has made necessary changes in the online traffic ticketing system. Accordingly, fines for jumping signals can no longer be paid online. The violators will have to visit the traffic department to make the payment.

Only those who produce notification from the concerned traffic department that they served the detention will be allowed to pay the fine so as to clear the violation.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Wasalallah Al-Harbi, director of Jeddah traffic, said that his department carried out intensive campaign to crackdown on traffic violators, especially those who jump signals.
