Flour stocks ramped up in EP
The Grain Silos and Flour Mills Organization (GSFMO) in the Eastern Province has accumulated enough stock to cope with the rising demand expected this Ramadan, an official said here recently.
The GSFMO started preparing for the holy month in April this year, said Jamal Mohammed Al-Subhi, the organization’s manager in the Eastern Province. The products have been packaged in different sizes including for home use.
He said the region’s mills have been working around the clock to provide the quantities needed. “The organization in the Eastern Province has prepared its silos and warehouses to receive a large quantity of various types and sizes of products.”
The three mills in the Eastern Province process 1,350 tons of wheat a day to produce 18 to 22, 45-kilogram bags a day, he said.
Al-Subhi said that the prices of its products have been fixed for almost 30 years. A 45-kilogram bag of white flour costs SR22, while the same size bag of brown flour costs SR30.
He said that the government supports the packaging sizes and prices of the GSFMO products to ensure they are convenient and cost effective for customers.
He said the government only imports the best quality wheat from producing countries and then ensures that there is a reserve stock for at least six months.
He said the Makkah province receives the country’s second-largest amounts of wheat on ships entering its ports throughout the year.
