Thirty-four percent of Saudis and expatriates, who were receiving treatment at the Health Ministry’s tobacco control clinics, have quit smoking, said Dr. Ali Alwadey, supervisor of the tobacco control program at the ministry.

“Our centers received more than 4,600 people this year and 1,566 or 34 percent of them achieved their objective,” he said, adding that the visitors were given treatment and medicines.

Alwadey said the ministry has deployed 10 specialized anti-smoking mobile clinics in various parts of the Kingdom to provide their services to all groups of people at shopping centers and other public places.

Women accounted for 4 percent of beneficiaries of the mobile units, which comprised doctors, nurses and sociologists. He advised Saudis and expats to make use of the ministry’s anti-smoking facilities.
