Suspect held in murder of Saudi student
A Saudi female student was killed Tuesday in the UK while she was on her way to the English Language Institute in Colchester, 90 km northeast of London.
Saudi Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Prince Mohammed bin Nawaf, said that authorities have arrested a murder suspect and urged all media outlets to report only official announcements made by the embassy in this regard.
Prince Mohammed said that the deceased’s brother, who has been with her in the UK, has identified his sister’s body. The prince said that he had reassured him and expressed his condolences.
The ambassador also summoned officials from the Department of Welfare for Saudis and Legal Affairs to follow up on the case and to provide support to the family of the deceased. He said there would be full cooperation with local authorities overseeing the case.
Prince Mohammad assured the brother of the deceased during a telephone conversation on Tuesday that the embassy will speed up the procedures to transfer the body to the Kingdom and follow up on the case.
He also said that he has been following up the case personally and will ensure that the killer is caught and justice is served.
The female Saudi student was reportedly beaten and stabbed to death on Tuesday morning on her way to college. She was studying on scholarship under the King Abdullah Foreign Scholarship program and was living in the UK with her brother.
