Physical disability did not deter Shaja Al-Yami from accepting the challenge of paragliding.

Shaja Al-Yami, who had to undergo a lower limb amputation due to a traffic accident two years ago, defied his disability by flying over Sodat Abha, the highest mountain of the Arabian Peninsula, and set an example to others that disabilities should not undermine one’s dreams.

Al-Yami, after enjoying paragliding with professional trainer Capt. Ayed bin Hasel Al-Ahmary landed safely in the city of Mahayil Asir.

Such an adventure requires lots of courage. Al-Yami worked hard to learn the technique of this dangerous sport and to see his life’s dream come true.

“It was a huge challenge for me. Even healthy people fear the experience of mountain gliding. It was an exciting experience, and I intend repeating it, especially with the support and encouragement from the spectators and the pilot,” he said.

Expressing admiration of Al-Yamni’s determination to overcome his disability, Al-Ahmary said he has never seen a disabled person tking up the challenge of paragliding in the Middle East. The Asir Aviation club, he said, aims to serve people with special needs and is proud to serve them.
