Customs officers at King Fahd Causeway foiled an attempt to smuggle SR553,500, which was found under the driving seat of a vehicle leaving the Kingdom for Bahrain.
Fahd Al-Otaibi, director general of King Fahd Causeway Customs, said a customs officer found the money hidden in bundles in the lower compartment of the driver’s seat.
He added that Article 14 of the Kingdom’s law against money-laundering states that traveler’s must disclose any sum of money that exceeds SR60,000 when entering or leaving the Kingdom.
Travelers are requested to fill out the custom’s form declaring they are in possession of financial documents, valuables or cash worth more than SR60,000.
