Free Checkup
A local hospital provided free health advice for members of the public here recently for Ramadan, including tests for diabetes and high blood pressure, and information on nutrition and losing weight.

Abdul Rahman Al-Sheik, an internal medicine and endocrinology consultant, and diabetes specialist at Dr. Suleiman Faqih Hospital, told Arab News over the telephone that the event was held to raise awareness of chronic lifestyle diseases such as diabetes. He said there are more than 344 million diabetics in the world, and almost 28 percent of the Kingdom’s population suffers from the disease.

He said the advice was also important because people tend to overeat in Ramadan, resulting in additional problems for those suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and other illnesses.

A group of physicians and consultants were present at the event on Saturday to help about 400 people.
