A week before the positioning round, Paradise Brand gave itself a chance to reclaim the No. 1 by clinching its fourth Team of the Week award during the 18th session in the the FTBJ-ICBL 33rd Conference bowling tournament at Jeddah Lanes here.
Displaying impeccable game Paradise came a point shy of a perfect score on 43 points, its bid for a clean sweep of the 11 points for first-place ruined by the MJ Bowlers in the third game.
Still, the session could not have been better for Paradise with Majid Aslani, coach of the Jeddah Saudi national team, completing a double when he captured the men’s Bowler of the Week award after shooting the high series of 724 on lines of 219, 248 and 257.
MJ Bowlers, who surprisingly tried to give Paradise a run for its money, settled for second-best on 43, with league leader Alliance in Motion Global a distant third on 33.
Hidada Ltd. and Boleros tied on 27 points while Sky Freight Forwarders and Lucky Strike tied as well on 20. D’ Barkads tallied 19 points, well ahead of the last three teams, Lance & 3rdy, GM Pin Pals and Taurus RDLR, on 15, 12 and 8 points in that order.
Luz Pagaran of Boleros was the ladies Bowler of the Week on 619 (160, 195,168).
Today’s positioning round for the first and third spots remains mathematically a toss-up between Alliance and Paradise and between Lucky Strike and Sky Freight.
Only 11.5 points separate Alliance (568.0) and Paradise (556.5) and 10.0 points between Lucky Strike (502.0) and Sky Freight (492.0).
Paradise hopes to carry momentum of the 18th week into this week’s crucial round where the team to finish No. 1 will have a twice-to-beat edge in the championship match.
Besides Aslani the others that bowled big at Paradise were Igna Salgado on 630, Fahad Al Romai with valuable two games of 210 and 199 and Nick Gozun with a 216. Their ladies duo of Marie Gumpal and Lourdes Punzalan tallied 601 and 552.
Over at MJ Bowlers Suhaime was the main man on 635. Azhanawati and Rozana contributed 590 and 582 from the distaff side. With two games each were Abdul Rashid 205-204, Nur Yazid 191-181 and Azizan Hassan 202-183.
Alliance, as usual, had the bankable Randy Mata at the helm on 680. Randy’s daughter Michelle, three-time Bowler of the Week, was Mata’s chief support on 600 with Grace Funtilon on 568. Veteran Cris Villavelez was the other player to go full games on 548 while Bonnnie Garcia had 193-190 and Paolo Alelgo 184.
Pinky Acato shot 555 while Nanding and Grace Siasoco matched cards of 549 as the trio in charge at Hidada, which also drew 212-172 from Saleh Fayez, 202-192 from Jun Palacio and 220-264 from Amro Al Amri.
