Relatives of expatriate workers who are currently on a visit to the Kingdom can have their family visit visas renewed for the rest of the year if they wish to do so, the Interior Ministry said in a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Interior Minister Mohammed bin Naif made the announcement on the eve of Ramadan on Saturday, following requests for consideration by expatriates who wish to have their loved ones stay longer with them in the Kingdom.

Visit visa extensions were earlier announced to be until June 28 only.

Maj. Gen. Sulaiman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Yahya, director general of passports, clarified that while the restriction has been removed, visitors whose visas are due to expire must file an application with the Passport Department.

Failure to secure an extension would be a violation of visa rules, he said.
