Huge farm blaze in Qatif put out
Civil Defense in the Eastern Province put out a blaze in a farm and nearby plant nurseries in Qatif which spread over an area of 6,000 sq. meters on Saturday.
Col. Ali Al-Qahtani, official spokesperson of the Directorate of Civil Defense, said the fire broke out in an abandoned farm covering an area of 6,000 sq. meters, and consumed a large number of trees, fauna and agricultural residues.
“The Civil defense dispatched 10 teams to extinguish the blaze,” Al-Qahtani said adding that a warehouse belonging to a nearby nursery was damaged along with some trees and seedlings of an adjacent nursery.
“Investigations are ongoing to uncover the cause of the fire,” he said.
In a related incident, four members of the Eastern Province Civil Defense were injured on Saturday morning as a result of a fire which broke out in a warehouse at Al-Meena (Port) road.
Fahad Othman Al-Ghamdi the official spokesperson for the Saudi Red Crescent Authority said: “The Operation Room received a report from the Civil Defense at 5:32 a.m. about a fire that had broken out at a warehouse. Three ambulatory teams and an advanced ambulatory team were dispatched to the location immediately.”
Al-Ghamdi said that the teams arrived at 5:43 a.m.
“Four members sustained minor injuries such as eye rash, burns and cuts and were suffering from low blood pressure,” he said.
Emergency medical services, he said, were provided to the victims while one case suffering from low blood pressure was transferred to Dammam Central Hospital.
The Saudi Red Crescent official advised the public to adhere to safety regulations and give room to ambulatory teams to do their humanitarian work.
