Iftar campaign targets motorists
Volunteers handed out 3,000 meals on the streets of Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam to poor people and motorists on the first day of Ramadan on Sunday.
The campaign is entitled “Your Iftar on Us” and has been jointly organized by Panorama FM Radio, National Commercial Bank (NCB) and Bench Mark, an events and public relations company.
The campaign, which saw 750 young volunteers distribute the meals, would continue throughout Ramadan, said Zaki Abdul Tawab Hassanein, head of the campaign from Bench Mark.
He said the volunteers handed out the meals to the poor in the streets of the three cities. They also targeted motorists to prevent them from rushing home and causing accidents.
He said Jeddah’s streets are congested because of ongoing construction work on new underpasses and flyovers. For example, it takes more than an hour to drive from the southern part of the city to the north.
Basma Jawhree, the director of NCB’s social responsibility program, said the bank was participating to help the poor and needy. It had also deployed some of its staff to distribute meals during Ramadan.
Jawhree said the aim is also to develop a culture of volunteering and gain reward in the holy month.
Panorama FM is presenting religious programs throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
