Fatal crash awakens Jubail neighborhood
Two people were killed in a major car accident that occurred in Jubail Industrial City this week.
The crash, caused by a young Saudi who died in the accident, killed a Frenchman who works for the company next to Cheveron’s housing complex in the Fanateer neighborhood.
The victim, driving a Chevrolet Tahoe, left the housing complex he lived in when the light turned green. A Jeep meanwhile ran the red light at high speed, crashing into his car.
The crash was heard in the entire neighborhood. Saleh Al-Qamam, an eyewitness, said that he had been waiting at the same traffic signal when the accident took place.
“The Frenchman had been driving very slowly and the Saudi youth crashed right into him at high speed,” he said. “The accident took place a mere five meters from me.”
The Saudi driver’s father claimed that his son was being chased by a police car, which is why he had lost control of the speeding vehicle.
The eyewitness, however, refuted the father’s claims.
“The traffic department had asked witnesses if they saw any police vehicle at the scene, which we did not,” he said.
