The General Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques announced on Tuesday that it has installed over 250 new cooling spray fans in the yards surrounding the Grand Mosque at Makkah.

These fans will automatically come into operation when temperatures reach 30 degrees Celsius.

The fans operate around the clock during Ramadan and Haj, pausing for only two minutes every eight minutes.

Pilgrims from all over the globe who are engaging in acts of worship in the scorching heat in mountainous Makkah will enjoy the respite of the new fans and other cooling ventilation methods introduced by authorities amid efforts to make their stay more comfortable.

“The presidency is aware of the ever-rising temperatures and the space constraints due to expansion works, especially in the northern side,” said a statement.

The presidency had first installed such fans in 2011. On regular days, fans operate for half an hour before prayer and half an hour after.

These high-capacity fans cover vicinities in open yards, providing instant relief to pilgrims, especially in the central area near the King Abdulaziz gate.
