Bringing smile on the face of orphans in Ramadan
A graduation ceremony for 35 orphans hosted by Basmat Amal was held in Jeddah recently in cooperation with a local philanthropist. Basmat Amal has been engaged in community service by taking care of the orphans and helping them come up in life and stand on their own.
A wide range of fun activities included face painting, cupcake decoration and growing plants. A few volunteers wore colorful dresses with familiar cartoon characters to reinforce the atmosphere of fun and enjoyment for the children. A number of gifts were also distributed at the end of the program.
Arien Mansour, a local philanthropist and sponsor of the event, said: “The gifts are part of the package that makes these children happy and we are celebrating the success of these orphans for securing top grades in exams. Moreover, the aim was to entertain and assure them that we shall always be there for them.”
“Basmat Amal has taken a great initiative in spreading the culture of volunteering among the youngsters. I would like to invite the local philanthropists to coordinate with them in order to implement more humanitarian activities in the city,” she added.
The head of Basmat Amal, Samah Najar, said: “We took this initiative to welcome the Ramadan essence and to be engaged with the month’s charitable spirit. Putting a smile on the face of an orphan is a good deed encouraged by Islam.”
She appreciated and thanked all the volunteers of Basmat Amal for being a part of its voluntary activities and for bringing joy and pride into the lives of the disadvantaged children.
Basma Al-Refai volunteered with Basmat Amal just to see the smiles on the orphans’ faces. She said, “It was good to be a part of this celebration and share their happiness. It’s also a great opportunity to show them that there are people to look after them and help them see that they can also play a part in our society.”
Ramadan is a time of charity and good deeds. A number of philanthropists often hold charity events to help the disadvantaged in society in an effort to seek heavenly rewards during the holy month.
