Saudi Arabia is coordinating its efforts with representatives of Islamic and Arab states and representatives of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) as well as other bodies to support the Palestinian delegation’s stand at the UN, which calls for an end to Israeli attacks on civilians in Gaza.

Abdullah Al-Mouallimi, Saudi Arabia’s representative to the UN, stated that the Kingdom was taking steps to calm the situation, but the international community should force Israel to stop this aggression.
“The Kingdom backs the efforts of the Palestinian government, and it will support them if they decide to go to Geneva, and will continue to support them in the UN and the Security Council,” he said.

Al-Mouallimi said an emergency meeting for Arab ambassadors is being planned to discuss the recent developments and the Israeli assault Palestinians in occupied territories and in the Gaza Strip.

The emergency meeting will discuss the results of a meeting convened by the UN Security Council members on Friday, he added.

Al-Mouallimi said the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will also hold a meeting on Saturday in response to calls from some Islamic countries, and based upon an invitation by the Kingdom’s delegation.

“We will place all our efforts at the disposal of the Palestinian delegation and stand by them in their efforts,” he added.

“We call for the resumption of the peace process, which is based on stopping construction of settlements, ending the occupation of Palestinian territories and lift the siege on Gaza,” Al-Mouallimi said.

“We demand an immediate halt to the daily killings of innocent people in Gaza and the threat to launch a massive ground offensive against Gaza,” he said.

Al-Mouallimi pointed out that Israel has made it clear that its main objective is to destroy the unity government of Palestine, after the Israeli representative at the UN said it was a matter of security and self-defense.
