Over 100 diplomats based in the capital attended an iftar party organized by World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) recently at Riyadh-InterContinental Hotel.

The event started with recitation of the Holy Qur’an.

Speaking at the event, Indonesian Ambassador Abdurrahman Mohammad Fachir lauded the contribution of WAMY in his country.

He applauded WAMY for organizing dialogue programs between representatives of different cultures.
“Dialogue is the only answer to challenges posed by conflicts between nations,” he said.

Brazilian Ambassador Flavio Marega said: “The purpose of Ramadan is to create a society that reflects solidarity, forgiveness, and tolerance,” adding that Brazilians belonging to different religions live together in peace and harmony — a fact that Brazilians are very proud of.

“There are 105 million Brazilian Muslims. We have 94 Islamic institutions and about 115 mosques in our country,” he said.

Dr. Saleh bin Sulaiman Al-Wohaibi, secretary general of WAMY, thanked all the participants of the event.

“Youth make up about 60 percent of the population in Muslim countries, which is a great boon for all communities, but also puts pressure on services providers whether from government agencies or the private sector, especially in the fields of education, health care and job market. Government and non-government organizations should give due care to them,” he said.

Dr. Al-Wohaibi told Arab News that WAMY is continuously organizing iftar parties since last 12 years.
Our objective includes honoring the supporters and donors to WAMY and acquainting diplomats in the Kingdom with the local traditions of breaking the fast together.

WAMY, founded in Riyadh in 1972, is one of Kingdom’s leading charity organizations, and a member of the United Nation’s non-governmental organizations. It has both local and international presence through many branches and affiliate organizations.

It is especially active among youth Muslims in various humanitarian works including helping poor, providing health care services to them, supporting students, building mosques, clinics, digging of wells, aiding in disasters, providing Islamic education and vocational training.
