A Pakistani Umrah pilgrim who went into sudden labor in Makkah has named her baby after the Saudi doctor who performed her Caesarean section (C-section) at an emergency unit with no maternity ward.

The Pakistani woman had arrived in Makkah along with her husband to perform the Umrah pilgrimage and had been swiftly transferred to King Abdul Aziz Hospital upon developing labor pains.

“The doctor, who was on duty in the ER, saw how much pain the woman was in and took a call to perform an emergency C-section even though he had had no prior experience in maternity cases,” Abdul Wahab Shubaili, a Health Ministry official, said in a statement on Sunday.

“Though Yusuf has no experience in obstetrics, the procedure went smoothly and the parents were so touched by his humanitarian gesture that they called their own newborn Yusuf after the doctor.”
