Education Minister Prince Khaled Al-Faisal on Thursday approved 5,700 new educational development projects worth SR54 billion.

He said the new projects were aimed at creating a qualitative improvement in the country’s educational environment.

The projects include 1,500 nurseries, 500 educational complexes, 800 large schools, 400 small schools and renovation of 2,500 school buildings. Prince Khaled discussed the plan to implement the projects with other education officials, including deputy education ministers.

In a related development, Higher Education Minister Khaled Al-Anqari on Thursday signed new university projects worth SR2.59 billion for the benefit of universities in Taif, Jazan, Hail, Tabuk and Majmaa, and Prince Salman University.

They include the second phase of the medical college project in Taif and third phase of student hostels.
An official at the Ministry of Education, meanwhile, said the ministry aims to include all schools in its electronic web by 2017, adding that all schools will be equipped with state-of-the–art technologies.

Jarallah Al-Ghamdi, information technology adviser at the ministry, said the project to provide all schools with the electronic web comes under the ministry’s plans to implement the electronic learning concept in all classes, adding that the plan will involve installing smart boards.

The project followed the endorsement by Prince Khaled of the technological projects embedded in the executive program to support the implementation of King Abdullah Project for the Development of Public Education. Al-Ghamdi said the project will be implemented next week in 50 schools in three different areas and is expected to be completed in five months.

“The bigger project will involve all schools which will be covered with Wi-Fi broadband and will be made available to all employees of the education process”, said Al-Ghamdi.

He noted that electronic learning requires high-speed Internet connectivity, which the ministry seeks to provide aiming to support the learning and teaching processes.
