Ramadan is the month of giving where Muslims lend a helping hand by providing orphans a decent iftar and Eid clothing.

More than 100 volunteers spent the last day of Ramadan and first day of Eid spreading joy and happiness among less fortunate children in Jeddah’s different neighborhoods.

The volunteers distributed kiswa (Eid clothing), candy and Eideyya as gifts given in Eid Al-Fitr. “We feel like it is our responsibility as volunteers to celebrate Eid and share the thrill of it with those who have had a stressful and tough life,” said Mohammed Aman, a volunteer.

“This can happen with simple things by buying colorful and tasteful candies and visiting the less fortunate people in their neighborhood, and wish them a happy Eid,” he added.

New and second hand clothing were distributed on the last day of Ramadan for orphans and poor children who wear them early on the morning of Eid.

“We have been working for over a week on the project where we used different social media platforms and SMS asking people to donate their used clothes only if they were in good condition,” said another volunteer Mohammed Kamel.

“After collecting the clothes, we divide them to groups and make sure they are clean and in good condition. Then we go to the underprivileged neighborhoods and ask people to select what they like to wear for Eid,” he added.

Sharing the love and Eid joy with those who need it is what Eid is all about, according to Lamya Abdulmajeed. “Ever since we were children, my mother used to take us to orphanages where we give away toys and candy to the orphans. Now I take my own children every year to teach them a lesson of giving,” she said.

“We have to put in mind that this is the only thing that makes them feel the love knowing they don’t have a family to celebrate with, so why not be their family even if it was for only a few hours where we play with them and eat sweets,” she added.

Another volunteer Abdulrahman Shata, who distributed iftar sayem in Ramadan, says giving Eid clothing is the best way to end Ramadan. “Ramadan is the month of giving where millions of Muslims feel for the underprivileged and try to extend a helping hand by providing them a decent iftar and Eid clothing,” he said.

“It’s our duty to help our brothers and sisters who need us. Giving them new clothes to wear during Eid is essential because this might be the only way they will feel the joy of Eid. What we are doing should not be an option, it should be a must,” he added.
