The wife of a member of the governing board at the Bangladesh International School (BIS) in Jeddah was killed in a road accident on Tuesday, the second day of Eid Al-Fitr.

Nasima Jahan Silpi was the wife of Amir Firoz, a board member at the school’s English section.
Five other members of the same family were injured in the incident, which took place on the highway between Madinah and Tabuk near the Al-Jinn valley.

Road accidents on the Kingdom’s highways, especially on the way to and from Makkah and Madinah, occur daily, prompting stricter action from traffic police in recent months.

The accident comes in the wake of two accidents that fell on the first day of Eid, killing eight people and injuring 17 in the Madinah region on Monday.

“Nasima was immediately taken to to King Fahad Hospital in a serious condition,” said Rumi Sayeed, media coordinator at BIS.

“Nasima succumbed to her injuries at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while another member of the family is still in critical condition. Staff members at the school are saddened by the tragic loss suffered by their fellow colleague.”

Statistics from the General Directorate of Traffic show that the Kingdom has 23 deaths per 100,000 people, with on average 19.1 road fatalities occurring daily.

There are approximately 7,100 road fatalities every year and 38,000 are seriously injured, of whom seven percent are permanently disabled.
