JEDDAH — The Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) has announced the arrival of a second desalination unit at Yanbu’s power generating plant that will be installed by the end of the week.

The head of SWCC Western Coast branch, Mohammad Al-Thebaiti, said it is the largest unit worldwide and is the second of six to be installed, two of which will be manufactured in the Kingdom.

He said: “Each unit weighs 3,836 tons, is 135 meters long and 26 meters wide and can produce around 94,000 cubic meters a day.

“Total production will reach 550,000 cubic meters (145 million gallons) a day when the project is completed.” He pointed out the first unit was already installed in May last year and the third and fourth units are due to arrive in November.

The whole project is expected to be completed during the first half of 2016 to cover increasing water demand in Madinah.
