KACST physicist wins US recognition
RIYADH – The American Physical Society (APS) has selected Dr. Ibtesam Badhrees, a leading research scientist in experimental particle physics at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), as the Woman Physicist of August 2014, making her the first non-American physicist to win such award.
Badhrees was recognized for her positive role in the physics community. Badhrees has received an invitation from the Committee on the Status of Women in Physics to participate in the workshop of “Developing Professional Skills of Women Physicists” that will be held in the United States. The committee selects a distinguished physicist every month to take part in such workshops.
The APS is the second largest physical society in the world. It is a non-profit organization that is concerned with promoting knowledge of physics around the world. Every year, the society publishes more than 10 prestigious journals and organizes at least 20 seminars.
