The new embassy premises will accommodate a larger number of expatriates who come for consular work daily.

The Bangladesh Embassy has moved to a new location in the capital this week to offer improved services.

The mission, which was at Al-Warood Quarter, has been shifted to Al-Waha district, Building No. 33, Al-Sheikh Hossain bin Hasan Street in Al-Waha district.

Mohamed Shahidul Islam, ambassador of Bangladesh, told Arab News on Wednesday that the new embassy premises will accommodate a larger number of expatriates who come for consular work daily.

He pointed out that an average of 2,000 Bangladeshis visit the mission daily for various services, which include renewal of passports, change of names, new machine readable passports and other consular services. The Kingdom hosts about 1.8 million Bangladeshi workers.

He added that acceptance of applications for machine readable passports will resume on Sunday. However, other consular services are being offered at present.

“Ever since the establishment of Bangladesh Embassy in the Kingdom, the mission has been making efforts to further strengthen bilateral ties and bring the two brotherly countries closer,” the envoy said, adding that the embassy is especially focusing on promotion of trade and investment cooperation between the two friendly countries.

“One of the most important responsibilities of the diplomatic mission is to look after the welfare of our community residing in Saudi Arabia. It sends consular teams to different parts of the Kingdom on a regular basis to provide various types of services.

The embassy also provides legal assistance to Bangladeshis in need,” the envoy noted.
The embassy also looks after Bangladesh’s relations with Ethiopia and Sudan as countries of concurrent accreditation. The ambassador is as well the permanent representative of Bangladesh to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which has its headquarters in Jeddah.

The embassy has five wings for diplomatic work — defense, economic, commercial, labor and banking.

The embassy remains open Sunday through Thursday. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Counters for receiving passport renewal/issuance fees remain open up to 12.30 p.m.

Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh or Bangladesh Consulate General in Jeddah has not appointed any agent through which passports can be renewed or issued. Passport holders themselves can tender their passports at the mission’s counter and get them renewed or issued.

A Bangladesh Embassy team regularly visits outlying areas to render consular services, including renewal or issuance of Bangladesh passports. Notices of such visits are published on the mission’s website and the daily newspapers, and circulated among the Bangladeshi concentrated companies.
