A man was sentenced to seven months imprisonment and 80 lashes by a special criminal court in Jeddah on Wednesday for distributing online news and images of terrorist activities in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The charges against the defendant also included developing a website for the purpose of sending messages carrying information, video clips and statements of operations to a number of websites with the aim of promoting the cause of militant outfits in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The suspect was also accused of offering technical assistance to a number of terror sites including acquiring a domain for the Islamic State in Afghanistan after its earlier domain was hacked, a source said.
