Emergency authorities in Jazan are calling for reducing the water level in Wadi Beesh Dam in the wake of the recent earthquakes that shook the region.

JAZAN — Deputy Emir of Jazan Abdullah Al-Suwayed has said necessary precautions are in place to face any emergency situation in case of another earthquake hitting the region.

Emir of Jazan Prince Muhammad Bin Nasser is closely following up the implications of the recent tremors that shook the region, he said.

Al-Suwayed explained that the governorate has participated in meetings held to discuss the effects of the earthquakes on the region. He said the governorate has relinquished its responsibilities of Wadi Beesh Dam unless the water level in the dam is brought down to the level agreed upon.

“All concerned bodies, including the National Center for Earthquakes, have decided to address the minister of water and electricity to emphasize the need to lower the water level in the dam,” he said.

He said the Civil Defense prepares daily reports and submits them to the emir, who is following up events in coordination with the minister of interior.

Al-Suwayed said the Civil Defense has held several meetings with various concerned bodies to set up the required emergency precautions.
