ABHA — Rain and mild weather are attracting a record number of tourists to the Asir mountains, which offer a reprieve from the blazing summer heat in most parts of the Kingdom.

A number of parks in the area, such as Souda, Hablah, Faraa and Dakghan are crowded with citizens and residents alike who are enjoying the spring-time climate and the dense forests. Visitors and tourists expressed their admiration for Asir and its mild weather throughout the year. They said one of most memorable moments is when fog touches the top of the mountain, an event that adds even more to the already beautiful nature.

To the south of Souda Park, the Tourism Development Council has identified several sites for hand gliding, which attracts thousands of spectators each year. The council has also provided the opportunity for those who wish to take part or train in hand gliding.

The cable car in Souda Park is one of the largest tourism projects in the Kingdom in terms of design and distance covered. The project has 23 cars, each one with a capacity to accommodate eight people. The cable car connects Asir heights to the plains of Tihamah.

“This is my first visit to the area and I did not know it was this beautiful but now I will come here again and again,” a visitor said.

Another visitor concurred and added that he had visited the area alone a few years ago. This time he has brought his family with him, he said, adding that he found the area has completely changed.
