The Council of Ministers on Monday commended four Saudi researchers who, together with fellow researchers from other countries, have discovered a material that would hopefully open new horizons for the oil industry.

All four researchers belong to King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST)’s National Center for Petrochemical Technology. The discovery will open new windows in canning and transportation industries while reducing their environmental effects.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Crown Prince Muqrin Bin Abdulaziz, second deputy premier and special envoy of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah.

The council discussed talks between Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah and Egyptian President Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi, which focused on current developments in the Islamic, Arab and International arenas, especially the situation in Gaza and efforts being exerted to stop the Israeli aggression against the Palestinians.

Minister of Housing and Acting Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Shuwaish Al-Dhuwaihi said in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) following the meeting that the council was briefed on consultations held during the past few days with a number of leaders of brotherly and friendly countries on the latest developments in the region and the world at large.

The council renewed the Kingdom’s call on the international community to assume its humanitarian responsibilities to address the situation in Gaza.

The council expressed its thanks and appreciation to King Abdullah for his keenness to protect the Islamic nation and his aspirations for security and stability all over the world.

It stressed that the King’s address to Islamic and Arab nations emanated from his sincere belief and conviction that it is their moral responsibility and religious duty to stand up to those who try to present Islam as a religion of extremism, hatred and terrorism.

Al-Dhuwaihi said the council also discussed a number of local matters and expressed satisfaction over the successful conclusion of the Umrah season.

The council welcomed Mohammed Bin Faisal Abu Saq, who was appointed by the King as minister of state and member of the Cabinet, and wished him success in his new post.

Later, the meeting approved the appointment of new board of directors of the National Center for Social Studies and Research for a three-year term. The new board members are Abdul Rahman Bin Mohammed Asiri, Ahmed Bin Abdulaziz Al-Tamimi, Jamilah Bint Mohammad Allaboon, Sarah Bint Saleh Alkhmshy, Hussein Bin Abdul Rahman Al-Athel and Ayedh Bin Farhan Al-Qahtani.
