6-kg tumor removed from woman’s abdomen in Makkah
A tumor weighing 6 kg was removed from the abdomen of a 20-year-old woman at Hira General Hospital here recently.
A team from the hospital’s obstetrics and gynecology department, led by Dr. Maher Khalifa, performed the operation successfully to remove the tumor.
The woman was admitted to the hospital complaining of continuous pain in her upper abdominal area for the past three years. “Examination showed a tumor on the right side of her abdomen, and a CT scan revealed that it has spread to her pelvis and pressing her stomach and lungs,” Dr. Khalifa said.
Dr. Waleed Muhammad Husain, head of the hospital, praised the efforts of the surgical team for the successful completion of the rare operation. “The patient left the hospital the same day,” he said.
Meanwhile, surgeons in Khamis Mushayt General Hospital removed a large gallstone from an elderly woman.
The operating team was headed by laparoscopic surgery consultant, Dr. Ahmad Aal-Hadi, who said that the gallstone was 4-cm long.
Spokesman for Asir Health Directorate, Saeed Al-Neqair, said that the patient was admitted to the hospital complaining of chronic pains in her right side.
A CT scan revealed a large gallstone in her right kidney. The gallstone was completely removed without the need of incision under a procedure known as advanced laparoscopic surgery “The patient left the hospital in good health and without any complications,” he said.
