Al-Qarrah — a mountain of caves and cool weather
HOFOUF — Mount Al-Qarrah is considered one of the most prominent tourist landmarks in the Eastern Province.
Located 18 km east of Al-Hofouf, the location was given this name due to its proximity to Al-Qarrah village that is in the middle of the green Al-Ahsa oasis.
The mountain is 210 meters above sea level.
From the mountain peaks one can see the beautiful green farms in all directions as far as the eye can see.
The mountain is characterized by its cool air during the summer and warm breezes during the winter as well as by its caves and magnificent rocks that form beautiful and attractive landscapes.
This has led the mountain to achieving fame in the Arab world, especially as it is a prominent landmark in the history of Al-Ahsa.
The mountain is surrounded by the villages of Al-Qarrah, Al-Twaitheer, Al-Tihaimiyah and Al-Dalwah.
Tourists and visitors come from different places to climb the mountain and take pictures, especially on weekends. They also tour the caves of the mountain.
In the early days, people from the surrounding villages used to go to the mountain during the summer.
They take refuge in the mountain’s caves to escape the severe heat in the villages.
Speaking to Al-Madinah newspaper recently, Saudi national Hussein Ali Al-Brahim said the mountain was like a refrigerator and air-conditioner.
He added: “When the heat becomes severe during the day in Ramadan, we used to go to Al-Qarrah Mountain with a group of youths and stay there from noon until one hour before the call for Maghreb prayer, when it is time to break our fasts.
“The weather is cool on the mountain and there are cool breezes. The place is away from noise.”
Fellow Saudi Mousa Jaafar said: “Mount Al-Qarrah is a tourist landmark among many other tourist landmarks in our country.
“It has been well known for a long time. We used to walk to the mountain to enjoy the cool breeze and beautiful scenery.”
