King donates more for Palestine relief efforts
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has donated $1 million for Palestinians in the West Bank as an additional aid for humanitarian programs in the territory. It will benefit 81,000 Palestinians.
The donation was given in response to a proposal made by the World Food Program, an official statement said, adding that the aid would be distributed through the Saudi Committee for the Relief of Palestinians.
UN humanitarian chief Valerie Amos, meanwhile, said that it would take months to repair damage to the UN’s infrastructure caused by the Israeli bombardment of Gaza.
“Damage to hospitals, schools and UNRWA shelters where people displaced sought refuge will take months to rebuild,” she said, referring to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees.
Amos was speaking to reporters at the start of a two-day visit for talks in Tehran with Iranian officials on the humanitarian crises wreaked by conflicts in the Gaza Strip, Syria and Iraq.
