Govt inspectors wage war on expired, counterfeit goods

Field teams from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry confiscated more than 55,000 expired cosmetic items in a villa located in the Murraba District in Riyadh, local media reported.

According to media reports, a group of foreign workers were arrested for forging expiry dates on cosmetics, detergents and body creams that they had picked up from pharmacies.

The workers would put new expiry dates on the products and re-sell them, the media said.

They were summoned for further investigation, the paper said.

Inspectors also seized more than 1 million posters and huge quantities of thinner and nail polish remover used to change expiry dates on the bottles.

In Dammam, meanwhile, inspectors found stores of expired products inside a villa, where operators were connected to the same gang in Riyadh.

Inspectors found similar items slated for tampering, the media said.

In Taif, the ministry’s inspectors seized at least 8,000 replica electrical appliance of known brands manufactured in violation of patent laws.

Ministry field teams confiscated more than 35,000 fake printer ink cartridges in different localities in Riyadh last week.
