Al-Balawi is acting chief of Border Guards
Maj. Gen. Awad bin Eid Al-Balawi has been appointed acting director-general of Border Guards following the death of Gen. Zamim Al-Sawat.
Interior Minister Prince Mohammed bin Naif made the new appointment.
Al-Balawi holds a bachelor’s degree from the Pakistani Naval Academy and master’s degree from the World Maritime University in Sweden. He has attended several advanced training courses and conferences.
Al-Sawat died following a heart attack while he was working in his office on Tuesday. Prince Mohammed conveyed his condolences to the family of Al-Sawat and officers of Border Guards.
Madinah Gov. Prince Faisal bin Salman attended the funeral prayer for Gen. Al-Sawat at the Prophet’s Mosque on Tuesday.
A large number of people, including military and security officers, attended the funeral.
Al-Sawat was buried in the Baqie graveyard near the Prophet’s Mosque. His body was airlifted from the Security Forces Hospital in Riyadh to Madinah. His family members will accept condolences in Taif.
A graduate of King Fahd Security Academy, Gen. Al-Sawat was appointed director-general of Border Guards three years ago.
