British MP George Galloway was hospitalized after a man shouting about the Holocaust attacked him in London Friday evening, the BBC reported his spokesman saying

The Respect Party law-maker is suspected to have a broken jaw and a broken rib, the spokesman said.

Galloway was posing for pictures with people on a London street “and this guy just attacked him, leapt on him and started punching him,” he said.

The attack, the spokesman said, appears to have been connected with Galloway’s recent “comments about Israel because the guy was shouting about the Holocaust.”

Galloway earlier this month said in a speech that Bradford, the city he represents, had been “declared an Israel-free zone” and urged people to boycott Israeli goods, services academics and tourists. As a result, he was “interviewed under caution” by police, the BBC said.

The spokesman said he did not know where the attacker was from or what his motive was.

The politician is being treated at the St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington.

The Respect Party tweeted a photo of showing a bruised Galloway on his way to the hospital las.

The tweet also thanked “all well-wishers.”
