‘Mary Kom’ declared tax free in Maharashtra
MUMBAI: The biopic on India’s five time world champion boxer Mary Kom has been declared tax free in Indian state of Maharashtra.
According to bollywoodlife.com, the girl power seems to be on a rise in Bollywood. With films like “Queen,” “Bobby” “Jasoos” and “Mardaani” doing good business at box office, the next big film with female lead, Priyanka Chopra’s “Mary Kom,” is predicted to rule the box office. Well, its just not the box office collections of these female oriented films that are making heads turn.
After Rani Mukerji’s hard hitting cop flick “Mardaani” was made tax free in Uttar Pradesh, it’s now Mary Kom’s turn to celebrate tax exemption in Maharashtra. While “Mardaani” was relieved from tax due to its theme of women’s fight against serious social evils like crimes and sexual offenses against women, many believe that a film on life of MC Mary, who had done India proud in international arena, deserves the exemption.
A source tells us that it is the brave attempt from Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Omung Kumar to immortalize a sports hero like Mary, that has got the tax exemption from Maharashta government. While the world waits for September 5 to arrive to catch Priyanka in kick ass avatar, the “Mary Kom” team can rejoice on its newly attained tax free status.
