The commencement exercise of the computer literacy program organized by Jeddah Educational Foundation (JEF- Filcom).

About 150 Filipinos in Jeddah have completed a computer literacy program conducted by Jeddah Educational Foundation (JEF-Filcom).

The commencement exercise was held last weekend with OWWA Welfare Officer Maria Victoria Demingoy, Jeddah Education Foundation School Principal Maminda Tacsay and National Institution of Information Technology (NIIT) Board of Director and School Administrator Vlademir Cayabas as guest speakers.

Romy Capili, the group’s head officer, said certificates will be given to students who successfully completed courses they enrolled in such as AutoCAD, laptop/desktop servicing, graphic design, CCTV security, Primavera P6, Adobe Photoshop C6, web design, photo and video editing, STAAD PRO, Windows Server 2012, advanced PC configuration and troubleshooting.

During the ceremony, guest speaker Vlademir Cayavas who is base in Baguio City, explained via Skype the partnership recently entered between JEF-Filcom and the National Institution of Information Technology (NIIT).

Cayavas said all JEF- Filcom students will be recognized by TESDA once their profile is forwarded to NIIT.

Cayavas further said an assessment of skills will also be conducted on all JEF-Filcom students who are willing to take the TESDA National Certification Examination.

NIIT, a private educational institution in Baguio City, is registered and recognized by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in the Philippines.

JEF-Filcom is an outreach education campaign by the Jeddah Children Educational Foundation School for OFWs, which provides computer literacy and trade skills courses to help Filipinos improve their respective professional competencies.

On Dec. 1, 2013, JEF’s administration approved the creation of the JEF-Filcom Computer Literacy Program to help OFWs be more competitive in their respective fields of expertise. Capili said JEF-Filcom is grateful for the support extended to them by the Philippine Consulate General, community groups and fellow OFWs.
