The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Haia) has denied reports that Haia members were branded “Islamic State (IS) members” when they had approached a girl at a shopping mall in Riyadh, burnews.com online paper said quoting a Haia official.

Reports had earlier circulated in the social media that Haia members had filed a case against the girl after she verbally attacked them when they ordered her to cover up.

The girl reportedly threw her shoes at Haia members and called them “IS members” in an angry reaction to their interference in what she was wearing, the paper said.

“The girl did shout at Haia officials, but made no reference to IS,” spokesman Turki Al-Shilail told local media.

He said steps are being taken to determine the identity of the girl so she can be questioned about the attack and her lack of responsiveness to Haia members’ orders.

Al-Shilail said the media should get their information from authentic sources.

Last week, a four-member Haia team was disciplined after Haia officers were seen in a video clip beating up a British man and his Saudi wife in a shopping mall in Riyadh. The Haia officials were transferred outside Riyadh and assigned administrative jobs.
