A Red Sea fisherman was rescued from a boat that was attacked by a dangerous type of wild fish on Saturday.

The boat, which began sinking from the impact, was traveling along the coast of Dahban, a popular fishing spot, when the incident occurred, according to officials.

“We were able to spot the incident from afar and sent rescue teams out on the spot,” said Col. Najhi Al-Juhani of the Makkah Coast Guards on Saturday.

“Helicopter services were also alerted. The fisherman was given first aid by Saudi Red Crescent teams and then transferred to the Saudi German Hospital and the boat was recovered.”

Al-Juhani warned fish hunters and beach-goers not to go near coral reefs or toxic fish that roam the sea. He also urged beach-goers to exercise caution while out at sea and call 994 for sea-related emergencies.
