Saudi intelligence chief Prince Khaled bin Bandar said Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has given instructions for the renovation of Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo at the Kingdom’s expense.

“I have handed over a message from King Abdullah to the chief of Al-Azhar, Ahmed Al-Tayeb, expressing his appreciation for Al-Azhar and thanking its authorities for awarding him a honorary doctorate degree,” he said.

Speaking about his talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sissi, Prince Khaled said it covered issues of mutual concern. He also handed over a message from the king to El-Sissi on matters concerning the Arab and Islamic world.

Al-Tayeb hailed King Abdullah’s efforts to stabilize Arab world. He said the doctorate was much less than what the king deserved for his support to the Ummah.
