Berlin to host Saudi cultural event

Culture and Information Minister Abdul Aziz Khoja

Culture and Information Minister Abdul Aziz Khoja will open on Tuesday a weeklong cultural event in Berlin coinciding with the Saudi National Day celebrations.

The ministry has been preparing for the festival in cooperation with the Saudi Embassy in Germany over the past two years, acting Undersecretary for Cultural Relations at the ministry Abdul Aziz Salama said in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency.

Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Khaled bin Saud, Saudi ambassador to Germany Osama Shobokshi, the German minister of state for culture and Berlin mayor will also be present on the occasion.

A major event in the festival will be a comprehensive exhibition showcasing the past and present of the Saudi culture. ”The expo will enlighten visitors on the Kingdom’s efforts to preserve all the diverse aspects of the Saudi heritage that abound in its various provinces,” Salama said.

The expo will include replicas of the Two Holy Mosques in Makkah and Madinah, and screen a documentary film on their architecture and methods of maintenance in addition to displaying the kiswah of the Kaaba.

The arts section in the expo will present Saudi paintings, Arab paintings and pictures that would project an impressive image of the Kingdom to the outside world. It will also display date products and traditional crafts.
