Congress leader Anees Ahmed said here on Saturday that the seat sharing impasse between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiv Sena, which could end the 25-year-old alliance in Maharashtra if there is no agreement, is only aimed at seeking power and position, and not for public welfare.

The way the BJP and the Shiv Sena are continuously fighting, the way Maharashtra BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar has highlighted the shortcomings of the Shiv Sena saying that the party does not have influence anywhere on any seat, it shows that the fight is just for the post of chief minister and power,” said Ahmed.

“The fight has sent a message to the people of Maharashtra that the parties are not concerned with them, but they just want to gain power and the Congress will definitely be benefited by this,” he added.

However, BJP leader Nalin Kohli assured today that the talks are already on between the leadership of the two parties and as far as the elections are concerned something will surely come out soon.

The Shiv Sena and the BJP have been bickering over the sharing of seats for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, with Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray indicating that he was interested in the Chief Minister’s post.
